Does Having Diabetes Affect Starting Periods?

April 5th, 2009 Jerry

Diabetes QuestionsI’m thirteen years old almost fourteen i have had diabetes since i was eight years old. I still haven’t started my period. My mom says its probably because i have diabetes. When you have type 1 you have to take insulin which is a hormone. So she says it can affect all of my other hormones and my growth. But im really wondering is this true?

I personally don’t know if it’s true or not, I haven’t heard anything about that. But you shouldn’t assume the delay is due to your diabetes. I knew a girl who didn’t start until she was 16, and she didn’t have any medical problems. Some girls just start late.

It may be that. I have type 1 and didn’t get mine until I was fourteen, and my aunt started hers late too and she also has type 1.
