Diabetes SymptomsUnlike the symptoms in diabetes type 1 and 2, gestational diabetes symptoms are hardly recognized as signs of diabetes due to the pregnant condition of a woman. They are often manifested in the form of excessive thirst and frequency in urination, but are usually treated as part of the child-bearing stage.

The main gestational diabetes symptom indicative of the disease is the elevation of the blood sugar levels. Hence, great care should be taken that high blood sugar levels should be treated with utmost urgency in order to avoid any complications that can affect the woman’s pregnant condition. What are the chances of me getting diabetes?

September 12th, 2009 Roger 4 comments

Diabetes QuestionsAs far as I know, diabetes doesn’t run in my family. My dad has high cholesterol, 2 of my aunts and my mom have high blood pressure, another aunt has a thyroid problem, and my dad’s cousin died from pancreatic cancer. Are my chances high? I’ve heard a lot of these link to diabetes, but I’m not sure which one I’m at risk to get if at all.
I forgot to mention I am 19 years old if that helps.

Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms

Diabetes SymptomsYour body needs carbohydrates to keep it going. Carbohydrates, a form of energy, are broken down into a simple sugar called glucose, which every cell in your body needs to survive. Glucose passes from the small intestine into the bloodstream. Cells require the hormone insulin, produced by the pancreas, which allows glucose to pass from the blood into cells. In type 2 diabetes, the body’s cells are resistant to the actions of insulin and the pancreas produces too little insulin. Glucose builds up in the blood and spills into the urine. High blood glucose levels cause the health problems, such as eye and kidney disease, associated with diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms » » »

Dog Diabetes

September 11th, 2009 Hazel Comments off

Diabetes TreatmentIf your dog has diabetes, you may be concerned, not only with how your dog feels, but also with how much treating dog diabetes costs.

The one thing I can assure you, is if you stay with mainstream veterinary care, it is likely to cost you several arms and legs.

However, holistic veterinary care is not only far less expensive, it is also far more effective. Of course, this is my view, as a holistic practitioner, and the view of all other holistic practitioners, as we are a bit biased.

But holistic practitioners are always taught to look for the cause of any ailment. This is less often considered in mainstream veterinary care, who are taught more about which drugs to use with each condition.

You may have heard of the expression ‘you are what you eat’. In other words, what you eat has a direct impact on your health.

Holistic veterinarians have found that when dogs are fed according to natural laws, their health improves almost beyond belief. Which implies that the majority of food that dogs are fed, is actually making them unhealthy.

Remove the cause and the problem disappears.

So how much does dog diabetes cost? It may not cost you anything if all it takes to cure it, is a switch to a natural diet.

Contrary to popular belief, feeding a dog naturally tends to cost less that feeding a commercial dog food.

If your dog has had diabetes a long time and has been given medical drugs, you’ll be well aware of the cost of this, not only in monetary value, but also in the welfare of your dog.

Even at this late stage, switching to holistic care is likely to bring down the cost, although the treatment may be more complicated.

Holistic practitioners find that treating uncomplicated cases of disease much easier than when drugs have complicated it, as the drugs have changed things and this has to be addressed.

So more advanced stages of dog diabetes may cost you more.

But be assured, that if you find a good holistic animal practitioner, your dog diabetes cost will be minimal, your dog will be happier, and you’ll be at the exciting start of a more natural approach to life and health.

I’m always amazed at how much we can learn from animals, if only we would listen.

Amazing Diabetic Diets For You

September 3rd, 2009 Hazel Comments off

Diabetes DietFor people diagnosed with diabetes, this is an indication that your body is unable to make or process insulin, leading to high sugar levels in your body. Hence, a great amount of attention should be paid to your diet to ensure that you control the amount of sugar in your blood levels, keeping it low and stable whilst getting the required carbohydrates intake. There is no one diet for people with diabetes, but diabetic diets will ensure that you take your lifestyle and health needs into consideration and help to forestall any further complications.

A general and quick guide for diabetic diets should include a limit on sugar and carbohydrate consumption, eating regular meals with emphasis on fruits and vegetables, and consuming less fat and alcohol. Diabetic diets should include more starches such as bread or cereals, and fruits and vegetables are strongly recommended as they reduce the absorption of glucose in your body as they contain soluble fibers. You should pay a visit to a dietitian to develop a meal plan that is suitable to your body’s needs and caters to your personal taste. Amazing Diabetic Diets For You » » »
